Thank you for visiting my page! I am Rongyu Shen, an alumni from the pioneering
Urban Technology
Program at the University of Michigan and I am currently pursuing the MS Information Systems (Urban Tech) dual degree at Cornell Tech in NYC. My areas of study sits at the intersection of urban systems, strategic design, and technology with a human touch, all oriented toward building more equitable cities of tomorrow. As an Urban Technology practitioner, I am committed to alleviating the structural, informational, and systematic barriers faced by underrepresented urban residents and service providers through AI-powered technologies and nuanced strategic design.
Through my studies and experiences, I have developed a cross-disciplinary toolkit spanning data science and machine learning, UX and graphic design, geospatial analysis, and web development. I have applied these skills in research and employment settings, including using LLMs and NLP pipelines to surface underrepresented voices in policy data, and building data-backed recommendations for community mobility programs. My Computer Science minor deepened my foundation in algorithms and AI, which I have put to work across academic, research, and civic-facing projects.
I like playing Cities:Skylines and almost any real time strategy (RTS) games, and cycling though a careless driver almost killed me last year.
